PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Nguiassono Community Clinic in Moanda, Gabon uses traditional building materials and technologies and places great emphasis on actively involving the local population in the construction process. Locally-sourced earth is mixed with cement to produce earth brick walls on-site based on an inter-locking system, tapping into the indigenous building techniques of mud huts and earth buildings.
The building intends to be exemplary in terms of its innovative approach to the adaptive use of building materials and techniques, community development, climatic mitigation and aesthetics.
The stack effect created by the hot metal surface draws cooler air in from the windows and out through the high level windows. This provides a passive cooling strategy without the use of electricity.
